Immersive Experience from Disney Animation Worth Seeing
The wonder of Disney started in the early 1970s for me when my family visited Disney World within the first year it opened. Numerous trips later with my family to both Disney World and Disneyland, and platinum status on Disney Cruise Lines, I guess you could say we are a Disney crazy family.

So doing a day trip to see the Disney Animation Immersive Experience shouldn’t be a surprise. You don’t need to be a Disney fanatic to enjoy this innovating display of Disney animation, featuring many of your favorite characters.
The Disney animation experience, touring the country right now is a great opportunity learn about the animation process, some of the rockstars that created these classics and then spend about an hour in the show itself.
What to Expect Disney Animation Immersive Experience
Before you enter the performance hall, if you arrive early you have time to spend learning about some of the history at Disney. You also have the opportunity to learn how to draw some of your favorite characters. If you’ve ever cruised on Disney Cruise Lines, this might remind you of the Animator’s Palate restaurant with the rough draft drawings and the placemats that walk you through making your own character drawing.
Immersive Disney Animation is producing this creative event that celebrates the great films of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The show is good for all ages, though it tends to be targeting younger Disney fans. The show provides visual snapshots of many of your favorite characters along with the rich musical soundtrack for which Disney movies are known.
Mickey Mouse is there to intro the show, but then the experience leans heavily on the Disney catalog from the past twenty years or so. And even then, there was no spotlight on the Toy Story franchise which we thought would have fit in well during the section that features characters flying.

The highlight for us was the Lion King opener, which features strong color visuals and the amazing soundtrack. Frozen was the finale of the show, which isn’t a surprise. Though the featured song was not “Let It Go” which was a surprise.
Interactive Kid Friendly Experience
A couple of times during the show, they incorporated bubbles into the show. The kids loved this, and it added to the experience. Our personal favorite was the use of the bubbles during the Frozen segment, which somehow included a smoke-type effect every time you popped one of the bubbles. Still not sure how they did that, but it was cool.
We got there early, which we strongly recommend. We were let into the room about 15 minutes earlier than anyone else. We were able to get a lot of photos of the entire room before others made it into the room. We had a full run of the room to see how you can interact with the floor and scatter the stars on the floor like pixie dust which was an awesome effect.
The Disney immersive animation experience itself was about an hour long. While there were lots of shows, especially older Disney classics that were not included, the show delivered with a unique experience featuring many iconic scenes. Smaller kids seemed to struggle with the hour long length, which isn’t surprising. That is where the use of the bubbles by Disney seemed to help redirect the focus during the show.
Disappointing was the gift shop. That might sound weird but generally speaking Disney does a great job of having quality and unique items stocked in their gift shops. The one in Detroit offered very little, seemed really picked over and nothing terribly unique. Which is strange because this entire Disney Animation Immersive Experience is very unique.
The Disney experience leaves Detroit September 9, 2023 but the world tour continues. Disney Immersive Experience tickets are very affordable, and we were able to find discount codes through a very basic Google search. They offer group tickets for groups of 4 and more. There is also a VIP experience which we did not pay for and didn’t feel like we missed out on anything.
