Your Walking Guide to Richmond England and All Things Ted Lasso

A visit to the London suburb of Richmond is like spending time with a charming old lady who is still on point with all the fun, hip and trendy things going on. That is Richmond. It has all the classic English beauty you could want with post card type views of cobbled streets and historic buildings. It even has classic views of the River Thames.

Richmond also has all you would expect for a modern, trendy suburb with its trendy shops and nightlife. And if that wasn’t enough, it has Ted Lasso!

We ventured out from London to Richmond in search of all things Ted Lasso. In doing so, we found so much more. Our visit to Richmond ended up being a highlight of our UK adventure.

The television show Ted Lasso has shone a light on this city, located just west of London and conveniently located along the District subway line. But those looking for an escape from the hustle of London found Richmond centuries ago. Today you will find a wonderful mix of old and new on your visit.

A tour of Richmond England and Ted Lasso locations provides you a mix of history and pop culture. You can do a Google search and find plenty to choose from, but our decision was to be more relaxed and simply explore Richmond, England on our own. We were able to mix in a little of the history along with TV fiction with our Richmond England Ted Lasso tour.

Richmond England Ted Lasso Experience

Our recommendation is to stop by the tourism booth which is at the Richmond Underground station. They have everything you could possibly need, including a Ted Lasso tour flier to help guide you around town. The red, white and blue flier called “Ted Lasso: The Richmond Walk” will quickly and easily take you to all there is to see around town. It is all within walking distance. Turn left out of the station and it is an easy seven minute walk to Ted’s apartment and many other opportunities to experience Ted Lasso.

First stop on a Richmond England tour, you’ll come to  the Richmond Green. This spacious area is a focal point in town, where you’ll see plenty of families out playing with their dogs or maybe even a game of cricket. This is also a focal point of several memorable scenes from the show.

Richmond Green has been a centerpiece for the community for centuries. It has been home to jousting back as far as the 15th century. Today you might find families out playing and maybe even a cricket match. Richmond Green was also featured prominently in the TV show Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso Pub

Just past the Richmond Green is The Prince’s Head pub. In the sitcom, it is called the Crown & Anchor and is the main watering hole for Ted Lasso, Coach Beard and the faithful of the fictional AFC Richmond football club. You can learn more about Ted Lasso’s favorite pub by checking out our restaurant review of The Prince’s Head

In front of The Prince’s Head pub you will find the iconic park benches and classic red phone booths. Fans of Ted Lasso will line up for their chance to get a photo of this favorite spot.

In front of the pub, you’ll find the famous park benches and classic red phone booths that are iconic thanks to the many scenes they featured in throughout the Ted Lasso series. You may have to wait a moment for your chance on the bench to get your favorite photo, but it is worth it.

Ted Lasso's apartment on the Paved Court in Richmond.
In the show, Ted Lasso’s apartment was 9 1/2. In reality, you can stop along the Paved Court at number 11 to get your photo at Ted’s doorstep.

Ted Lasso’s Apartment

Around the corner from The Prince’s Head, you’ll find a quaint little path that has several treasures. As you walk down the Paved Court, you can look straight ahead and feel like you’re walking on the set of the show. On your left, you will find Ted’s apartment. On the show, he’s living upstairs at 9 1/2 Paved Court. In real life, the apartment is actually number 11. It is another classic photo opportunity for fans, just please don’t knock on the door expecting Ted. The real flat from the series was shot in studios in West London.

Paved Court in Richmond England
This quaint little path, called Paved Court is filled with fun little shops and bistros for you to check out. The biggest crowds will be at Ted Lasso’s apartment, number 11, and at the official Ted Lasso store.

There are several other lovely shops that you can shop along the Paved Court. The official Ted Lasso gift shop is there, with two floors of Ted Lasso themed shirts, hats and souvenirs. Across from that is a small restaurant that offers small pink boxes of biscuits. Though their slogan is “Eat what Ted eats”, fans of the show know that Ted made his own biscuits.

We didn’t have the biscuits, but we did spend a few minutes snacking at Bonne Bouche at the end of Paved Court. It is a quiet spot to sip on a drink, enjoy a baked treat and watch people making their way down the path. The little gem has been around for 50 years dreaming up some sugary treats.

Many people come to Richmond looking for their stadium, affectionately called “the dog track” in the TV show. The stadium used as AFC Richmond’s home pitch is actually located Selhurst Park in South London

Stroll Along the Thames

There are a few additional filming locations for Ted Lasso around town. Along the riverfront has been featured a couple of times in the show. Even if it wasn’t a part of the show, it is worth enjoying a casual stroll along the Thames. Along the river, you’ll even find a view so perfect, it is even protected by an act of Parliament. That special view is from Richmond Hill, which overlooks the Thames, royal parks and more.

In addition to being a filming location for Ted Lasso, the riverfront of the Thames River in Richmond is a destination for breathtaking views.

If you love royal history, Richmond has that for you as well. The Richmond Green was the site of jousting back in the 15th and 16th centuries during the era of the Tudor kings and queens staying in Richmond Palace. Very little remains of this once luxury residence. Only the Gate House, the Wardrobe, and the Trumpeters’ House remain of Richmond Palace.

A few structures remain from the once magnificent Richmond Palace. Richmond Palace was once the home of kings and queens from the Tudor family, including Henry VII.

Richmond Palace was named that in 1501 by King Henry VII. He has been called the “shrewdest king of England” for his business dealings. He laid a verysuccessful foundation for his better known King Henry VIII and later Queen Elizabeth I.

A walking tour around Richmond would not be complete if we didn’t mention the monkeys. They’re everywhere! Not actual monkeys, rather it’s chimp statues that you’ll find throughout the area.

We found Richmond to be a delight. It has a very laid back vibe, but still plenty to see and do. Planning a visit, let us know. And be sure to check out our other London adventures for idea on what to see and do.
